Research center in Antarctica made with 134 sea containers , BOF Arkitekten.
Located on a peninsula in the northwest of the Antarctic “bharati antarctic research station” from bof Arkitekten presents a self-sufficient complex comprised of 134 sea containers , wrapped with an insulating metal skin and also aerodynamic. The 2.500 m2 (27.000 ft2) of floor space, which were awarded at the ” National Centre for Ocean Research & Antarctica ” in 2006, are intended as an architectural volume that can be easily and completely disassembled, because of how restrictive is the region for its access.
The energy supplied to the station comes from a combination of heat and generators, the residual heat used for the creation of the electricity is enough to heat the entire station. A total of 24 single and double rooms are located on the second floor which includes the kitchen, the dining room , the library, the fitness room, as well as offices and a lounge. The first floor houses the laboratory, the warehouse and the technical spaces. The third floor has a terrace that is used for the oudoors experiments.
